Stand-Up Comedy Films

Just found out that there will be another Stand-Up comedy film hitting the DVD market this mouth. On April 27 the film Why We Laugh-Black Comedians On Black Comedy will be on sale. The preview for the film directed by Robert Townsend was very captivating. There is a long list of prominent black comedians giving commentary on the history of Stand-Up comedy. As well as the impact that black comedy has on our society.

Film like Why We Laugh that discuss the business nature and art form of Stand-Up are not made often enough. I view these film as a tool to help understand the my roll in comedy, and for insight on what has come before me. Once you being preforming Stand-Up it becomes quite clear that to achieve successful in this art form it take a lot more then just simply being "funny." I believe one of the most impacting films a young comedian should watch is Jerry Seinfeld's Comedian. This film give a in depth look in to the life of a working comedian. There are other outstanding films on Comedy that I feel every comedian should watch. Such as When Stand Up Stood Out directed by Fran Solomita. This film is a documentary discussing the rich comedy roots in Boston throughout the 70ds and 80ds. Another film that comes to mind is Jo Jo Dancer, Your Life Is Calling directed by the late, great Stand-Up comedian Richard Pryor. The film Jo Jo Dancer is a over view of Richards life as it pertains to comedy.

Film such as the ones I have mention and other are really important to the development of young comedians such as myself. The knowledge gained will become quite valuable to you. So to understand the long road ahead of you as a comedian, realizing the hard work so many legendary performers have put in to gain great successes. These film bring you closer to that realization.

I encourage everyone to support the film Why We Laught. Here is a preview of the film.
